Much Ado About the Weather

Biggest Pet Peeve of All Time:  Talking about the weather.

Because there is so much more to talk about,
so much more that needs to be talked about.

But the weather is comfortable, easy, non-combative.

The implications of this sickens me. As if humans have nothing more in common than the sky above us.  Just because we live in different regions and grew up in different religions, doesn’t mean there is nothing more we share than the weather.  How about love, life, loss, struggle?

So careful not to say anything that is politically incorrect, we say nothing at all.

It’s not the politics that are important in speech, it’s the message behind it.  I may not know the correct term for the newest gender category, but I know love and acceptance.

It doesn’t have to be confrontational or sensitive.
But please, just for once, don’t smile and say, “So, how ’bout this weather?”

This one time, how about we talk about
something real,
something meaningful,
something that deserves to be discussed,
something we actually have the power to change.

We can’t fix what we refuse to acknowledge is broken!  Nor can we recognize what is right, if we are not willing to open our eyes to the world around us.

Thank you for sharing this powerful piece Pinkspen!
